Golf has been a constant presence throughout my life. I came to the game at a young age, almost by
accident – but perhaps it was inevitable. My family roots trace back to Scotland, to the county of Ross, a place
steeped in golfing history and a deep reverence for the land. Long before I understood the game’s traditions
or its architecture, I felt its pull. What began as a youthful fascination gradually developed into a lifelong
passion.
That passion has taken me far beyond my first fairways. Through the opportunities afforded by my career in
international relations and transnational education, I have been fortunate to play golf courses on every
continent, experiencing layouts that range from hidden local gems to many of the world’s most celebrated
venues. Along the way, golf has become far more than a game; it has provided a lens through which to explore
landscapes, cultures, histories, and the enduring connection between people and place.
Following the release of the 2026 book entitled The World’s Greatest Golf Courses, a celebration of some of
the game’s most extraordinary golfing destinations, I am currently working on a
volume showcasing the great golf courses of the United States which is scheduled for release in 2027.
I live in the Ottawa region, Canada, where I still walk the fairways and occasionally convince myself there are more birdies than bogeys ahead.
